I was going to call this post “unlikely friends”, but you know what? It’s not unlikely at all, just something you don’t see everyday. Boys love puppies, puppies love boys, and seals are the puppies of the sea. That makes perfect sense to me.
On Saturday I went to the aquarium with a lovely friend, I had grand plans of being 5-years-old for a day, and capturing wonderful fishy images… Somehow I came back with more portraits of people than fish. We watched this seal play with kids all afternoon, it was enchanted with anyone tiny, especially these little boys.
I watched people discover amazing things, with the soft light of luminescent tanks making their faces glow with more than just a smiles. Until now, I’d never thought of these places as a people watching opportunity, but it’s perfect really. People are so wrapped up in what they’re looking at, they barely notice when you snap a shot of them in the dark.
And this closet Marine Biologist now has an annual pass, so I get to be 5-years-old for a whole day, again and again and again… :)

Green velvet seems to be a reoccurring theme for my weekends lately. Not that I’m complaining, that big cushy armchair is the kind that begs you to curl up in it on a rainy day with a good book. It’s equally good for having breakfast out with friends, and seems to always be waiting for me, empty though the place is bustling.
Velvet armchairs, good food with good friends, antiques and rainy afternoons. I wonder what this weekend has up it’s sleeve?
Happy Friday!

Myrtle Street Studio is nearing completion (!!), and last week I was very happy to be helping out by shooting some more photos for the blog and developing website. I mostly shot digital, but was excited to pick up the couple of rolls of film I shot while we were at it. Jay Dee Dearness—the brains behind Myrtle Street Studio—kindly let me share a few of the film shots here early.
It’s so exciting to see everything happening. From construction of the studio and gallery itself, to further development of the visual style that I’m working on as we speak. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this amazing space.

The air was warm, it was raining hard. You know that straight down, unrelenting rain? Yes, that rain. Well, in this dream, there was a field of grass. I walked out into the middle, and lay on that grass. I stretched out, closed my eyes and let the rain have me. It beat down until my skin tingled and my lips were numb. When it finally eased off to a sprinkle, the birds started singing and I sat up, refreshed, smiling and so very alive.
Today, this is exactly what I did. For real.
It’s nice to do instead of dream.
